The drive back to the White River Ranch was quiet, the cab of the truck filled with unanswered need and a little reticence from them both. For Lisa it was because she was afraid of getting hurt again; afraid of not being enough for another man.

When he finally pulled up in front of the ranch house, Lisa let go of the breath she had been holding since they turned into the long drive. “Thank you, Sam, that was nice.”

Sam tipped his Stetson. “I aim to please.”

A smile curved her mouth knowing that he was word playing, and it had hit the spot right on the mark. “I hope so.”

She climbed out of the truck feeling a little bold and more than a little turned on. They walked up the porch stairs side by side. When she reached for the door, Sam grabbed her arm and swung her around. Instead of opening it he pressed her against it, his body flush against hers. This time when his mouth took hers there was no reticence, apology, or tenderness. The kiss was blazing, demanding, and cleared her mind of every single coherent thought.

He surrounded her – his scent, his hands, his mouth – she could think of nothing else. Needing to touch, to feel him, she slid her hands around his back. The ridges beneath her touch were hard and molded, making her catch her breath.

Sam pressed his hips against hers, making his need perfectly clear as he tilted his head and kissed her even deeper. His hand brushed over her cheek before slipping over her collarbone, under her arm and slowly cruising towards her waist. Her skin was on fire; heat pooled where she needed him most.

When Sam finally stepped back, his blue eyes almost indigo, he flashed her the cocky grin that made her insides twist upside down. “Consider that a light summer shower.”

Lisa gasped. “I look forward to the summer storm.”

Sam shrugged and opened the door. “Me too.”

He headed upstairs, leaving Lisa on the porch. She had expected him to drag her to bed, instead he left her wanting. For a brief moment she was disappointed and considered going after him, until a smile curved her mouth.

Sam was a gentleman, and gentleman courted, they didn’t just go for the home run. Feeling giddy, a little more than turned on, Lisa headed upstairs and imagined what the summer storm would be like if the light shower left her weak and wanting.
